Hello all here are the games that are scheduled for next week:

  • Thursday 5:30 and 8:30 pm
  • Friday 11:00 am and 3:30 pm
  • Saturday bracket plays starts at 9:30am

Also we will practice Monday, Tuesday , and Wednesday of next week to prepare for the tournament. I'm trying to secure a field for a practice game next week. I will follow up with info. Thanks Coach Ken

Hello all. We experienced a very tough weekend. After thinking about all the "what happened", I think I understand why we didn't play as well as we are capable. Our last couple of weeks we have had partial participation with our practices. This was evident as we were unable to play as a team which was frustrating to the coaches, the girls, and the parents. I have all the confidence that we will return to our "bobcat" form with some consistent, committed practice.

Because our next tournament is not until the week of July 17th, here is how we will proceed. We will not practice this week. PLEASE PLEASE USE THIS WEEK TO TAKE CARE OF ALL KNOWN NEEDS. Next week we will practice Tuesday and Thursday, 5-7 pm. The following week we will practice Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 5-7. I also have several possible practice games that I'm trying to schedule. Please understand that for us to return to our competitive form, everyone must be present at the practices so we can work together as a team. I have full confidence in our ladies ability to compete at a high level as long as we continue to practice and prepare with intention.

I would also like to host a movie and pizza night for the girls. Please suggest dates that we think works for everyone.

Thanks -- Coach Ken

Go Bobcats

WOW what a weekend. I'm extremely happy and excited about what we accomplished this weekend. I want to thank Coach Mike from our other team for allowing us to play in this tournament in place of his team. Also big ups to Coach Mike for bringing the three young ladies that helped us to this very successful tourney.

Thanks to all our ladies as they showed what we are capable of and the good things that we have to look forward to this summer. As I told them, I'm very proud of the effort they displayed that allowed us to outplay our opponents in 4 of the 6 games.

Finally, thanks to all the parents that made last minute adjustments this week to commit to this tourney.

And what about those coaches- a great all around effort from the moment we arrived , preparing the girls for the day during early morning practice , and all the coaching during our 11 hour marathon that helped to encourage the ladies to play up to their potential. THANK YOU VERY MUCH COACHES.

I'm going to enjoy this summer with our girls and I hope everyone will also.

Practice this week will be Tuesday at 175th and 84th ave at 5pm. No high school girls are allowed at this practice unless you are done with school. Preparing for finals is all the high schoolers should be doing this week. Good luck to all our high schoolers on their finals this week. We will also practice Thursday(5pm) and Saturday(9am) with locations to follow. We are scheduled to play in Kankakeee June 13-14 so please plan accordingly.

CONGRATS to our 8th grade graduates, what a great accomplishment. Enjoy your summer as high school will be waiting for you with a big smile.:)

Thanks again to all for making my week end with great pleasure. Coach Ken

As most of you know, women are more likely to have knee injuries than men. The most common explanation I heard for this was men and women have different bone structures. And as a result, women experience more stress in certain areas of the body. Recently, Allison Aubrey of National Public Radio (NPR) did a story that provides a clearer reason why women have more knee injuries.
Why do women have more knee injuries?
Aubrey's story, which is titled Training May Curb Some Sports Injuries In Women, notes that men do not experience as many knee injuries because during puberty they develop larger rear leg muscles, i.e., the gluteal and hamstring muscles. Unlike women who depend on the front muscles (quadriceps), men are able to use the rear muscles for power and speed more efficiently. Hence men have better front and rear leg muscle balance. Without good muscle balance, the ACL will likely experience more stress which is why women are six times more likely to have a tear than men.
How do we prevent knee injuries?
Aubrey's story says that young ladies must learn to activate the rear leg muscles through training. Will our team's training program help? Absolutely, as long as we continue to do leg exercises that flex and strengthen the rear muscles.

Plyometrics

Plyometrics is an exercise term you may have heard before. According to wikipedia.com, plyometrics is "...a type of exercise training designed to produce fast, powerful movements, and improve the functions of the nervous system, generally for the purpose of improving performance in a specific sport."

The coaches have decided that Plyometric Training should be incorporated into our workouts.
